Stream Research and Data

Rivers and streams of the ACG (click to enlarge)

Estación Maritza is located near the banks of the Río Tempisquito, and within easy walking distance of 5 other permanent streams that are all tributaries of the Río Tempisque (Table 1). These streams have been the focus of many of our studies of stream ecology and biogeochemistry. Our efforts have also extended to permanent and temporary streams near other research facilities such as Santa Rosa, Cacao, San Cristóbal, and Pitilla.

Data for streams of the ACG include physical, chemical, and biological variables (Table 2). Some variables such as air and water temperature, rainfall, stream discharge, organic matter inputs and exports, and adult aquatic insect emergence have been collected more or less continuously or regularly since 1990. Data for other variables such as analyses for specific chemicals or various aspects of the structure and function of stream biota have been collected far less frequently. We are happy to share data collected for this project and to collaborate in its interpretation. Requests for data access and proposals for collaboration should be directed to John Jackson.
