8:07am...I have a few minutes to spare before we start to hike to the Bronx this morning. Last night I could not sleep at all! Our tent was so hot and sticky and I just could not get comfy! Someone is coming here shortly to be our tour guide through Yonkers. 11:40pm...Today we completed Yonkers. It was not bad at all! We met up with some people from DEP and walked until Mosholu Golf Course, for a BBQ lunch. There we were greeted by Bob Buckmaster where we were given amazing food and hospitality. I was interviewed by ABC News and it will be on, on Monday. I am becoming a star! ha-ha. After we got to talk to sandhogs and the filtration committee, we got to actually walk in the construction site where it is being built now. We had to walk to the Van Cortland Mansion and sleep in the basement. We had a 3 1/2 hour meeting and got to reflect on each other, personally. It was long but a good way to end the trek. The basement is nice and cool right now and it just started raining. I cannot wait for tomorrow!

Trekkers depart Beczak Environmental Education Center....on their way to Van Cortlandt Park with Bob Walters. | We all prep with construction hats and vests before seeing the Croton Filter construction site. | Leona Taylor reminds us about safety precautions we should take while at the construction site. | | | Can you believe this crane is strong enough to lift a bulldozer? | See the two holes on the right? That is where the city water tunnel will connect from the Croton Watershed to the Croton Filter Plant. | Look at how deep this plant is!! And check it out: our first sighting of a subway! Here’s the 4 train pulling into its last stop at Woodlawn. | | | Tonight we stayed in the basement of this museum, which was built in 1748. Some say it is haunted. Gen. George Washington used Van Cortlandt House as headquarters during the Revolutionary War. | Tonight we were treated to homemade carrot cake from Lloyd's bakery. It was delicious! |
