From Gabe: Today was our first expedition and it was amazing! The view was so beautiful and the walk was the best hike I had in weeks. Everyday gets better and better. I am going to hate to leave this place. During the day we learn on how many bugs and wildlife live in the stream. There is one type of insect which caught my eye. It was a mix of a Chinese dragon and a NYC centipede. Night was amazing too. We made dinner but it took too much time setting up the stove and we made too much (what a waste). Later on we made a campfire and it was great. My first! And I will never forget it!..............................From Asha: Today we hiked 1.5 miles from Denning Trailhead to our camp for the night. The first thing we did when we arrived was set up our tents. Then we went down to the river to do a leaf pack experiment. Leaf pack is like a little experiment to see what aquatic organisms live in the water. A bunch of leaves on the ground are collected then placed into an onion bag. In the end, the onion bag is placed in the water. After a few weeks the bag is removed from the stream. We sorted out the organisms and used a book to identify them. We also found 3 salamanders. After that we learned about some diseases in the water. Then we came back to the camp sight. For dinner, we build a campfire and demolished some chocolate and marshmallows. We had a meeting and went to bed..........(we'll add some photos on Saturday)
