Post-Doctoral Scientist in Modeling/Organic Matter Biogeochemistry

A NSF-funded post doctoral position at the Stroud Water Research Center is available for an enthusiastic, highly motivated scientist to participate in a study of the Hydrologic Regulation of Dissolved Organic Matter Biogeochemistry from Forests through River Networks. The ultimate goal of the research effort will be to integrate dynamic mathematical models that describe dissolved organic carbon movement, transformation, quantity and quality in terrestrial and aquatic environments to generate a model that links the water cycle and the carbon cycle of a river catchment. We seek an individual with outstanding modeling capabilities, but the ideal candidate will also possess knowledge of analytical methods in organic matter biogeochemistry. The successful candidate will have the freedom to use the field installations within the White Clay Creek experimental watershed at the Stroud Center and Center’s analytical instrumentation to supplement the modeling aspects of this work. The appointment is a fixed-term position for a period of 1.5 to 2 years at the Stroud Water Research Center.

The project is a collaborative effort between the Stroud Center and the University of Virginia and the successful candidate will work with Drs. Louis A. Kaplan, J. Denis Newbold, and Anthony K. Aufdenkampe from Stroud and Dr. George M. Hornberger of Virginia.

This position is open immediately. To apply, send a cover letter with a brief description of research interests and past research experience, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of 3 references to Dr. Louis A. Kaplan.
