Grants and Contracts Accountant

This position involves the effective and efficient management of sponsored project accounts from conception to completion at the Stroud Water Research Center (SWRC). This position would insure that accounting procedures are compliant with sponsor and SWRC policies, regulations, and requirements and include the following: (i) notice of award review; (ii) preparation and submission of financial reports; (iii) review and approval of journal requests and other account adjustments as necessary; and (iv) invoicing and collection activities. The position also requires independent analysis and trouble shooting of problems while seeking solutions consistent with company policies and procedures. Preparation of management financial reports including analysis of material budget variances would be expected on a monthly basis. Other duties would include secondary support for payroll and accounts payable functions and other projects as they arise.

Requirements:
B. S. in accounting. At least two years experience in sponsored projects administration (including pre- and post-award activities) at a research university or other academic institution is preferred and may be considered in lieu of degree. Important assets of the successful candidate include: (i) a commitment to excellence and growth in the administration of sponsored programs; (ii) interest in and commitment to compliance with sponsor regulations and restrictions; (iii) knowledge of financial reporting, cost transfers, expense monitoring, budget and expenditure controls, billing and effort reporting, and other internal controls inherent with sponsored funding; and (iv) knowledge of federal/state/private sponsor regulations and procedures relating to post award administration.

The successful candidate will be a self starting, highly motivated individual with a strong service orientation and willingness to work as part of a team of professionals.

Knowledge of current federal regulations of sponsored projects and/or effective methods of internal control over sponsored projects is desired. Proficiency in Excel and Word is expected. Experience with Access or other database systems would be a plus.
