Wade Davis

National Geographic Live

“A child raised to believe that a mountain is the abode of a protective spirit will be a profoundly different human being from a youth brought up to believe that a mountain is an inert mass of rock ready to be mined.”
– Wade Davis

Meet Wade Davis, anthropologist, botanist, filmmaker, photographer, author and National Geographic Explorer in Residence. Davis will take us on a journey that speaks to the legacy of humanity and what we risk as we face the loss of the indigenous cultures that have learned to adapt to, rather than to master, the landscape.

The stunning achievements of these ancient cultures demonstrate that there are other ways of orienting to place, landscape and home — and that reciprocity with the land is indeed, a rich and more sustainable approach.
